The BRIGANCE Criterion-Referenced Inventory of Early Development 4 (IED 4) is a comprehensive collection of more than 130 developmental and academic assessments, organized into two volumes. This newly updated edition is an enhanced version of the IED III, offering a comprehensive picture of skills mastery.
Designed to be used with students developing skills typically acquired between birth and age 8, the IED 4 supports early childhood and special education professionals in identifying strengths and needs, evaluating school readiness, planning individualized instruction, and writing instructional objectives. The IED 4 provides expanded domain coverage, including:
The new Cognitive domain covers perceiving, thinking, and learning skills used to understand the world. Assessing early cognitive development provides insights that can help inform instruction across all content areas.
The fully updated Literacy section reflects the Science of Reading, with a focus on foundational literacy skills. Includes the parallel strands of word recognition and language comprehension, which come together to form increasingly automatic and strategic reading.
The fully updated Mathematics section reflects current research on early numeracy, covering foundational mathematical concepts essential for academic and intellectual growth.
The new Science section focuses on scientific inquiry skills and knowledge of the natural world, aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards.
Updated Interpersonal and Intrapersonal sections with expanded assessments aligned to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, or CASEL, framework.
