Morongo USD Aims to Ensure Reading Proficiency by Grade 3

Overview

Dramatic Increases in Foundational Literacy

Morongo Unified School District’s Reader by Nine initiative aims to ensure all students reach proficiency by Grade 3. In fall 2023, the district overcame constraints to support this ambitious goal, implementing new foundational reading curriculum for their Grade K students. Usage resulted in, on average, a 21-percent increase in Phonological Awareness, 31-percent increase in Phonics, and 37-percent increase in High-Frequency Words, based on fall to spring 2023–2024 final i-Ready Diagnostic results.
