Boaz City School Flips Intervention Pyramid

In 2016, educators at Boaz City School (BCS) in Marshall County, Alabama were dismayed by the growing number of students who needed Tier 3 interventions. To address students’ learning needs, BCS implemented Ready Mathematics, i-Ready Diagnostic, and i-Ready Personalized Instruction, first with students with special needs and English Learners, then with more students every year. By the 2019–2020 school year, all Grades K–8 students were using the new programs.

“Teachers know how to talk about data in a whole different way than they used to. Now, they’re coming to meetings able to answer questions like, ‘What group have you had [students] in? What prerequisites do you know they don’t have?’” Ashley Walls, Director of Teaching and Learning
