Supporting Multilingual Learners in California
Supports for Multilingual Learners
Classroom Mathematics California ensures that all students, including English Learners, have the support they need to engage with rigorous content and communicate their ideas effectively. Language-related features and resources address the California ELD Standards and show teachers how to scaffold instruction so English Learners can develop the academic language they need for success in math.
Supports include:
- Language Objectives in every lesson
- Math and academic vocabulary learned and practiced through routines, activities, and in-context use
- Activity-specific support to differentiate support for English Learners
- Academic Language Focus identification in each unit
- Build Academic Language for All Students highlights one lesson Language Objective and shows how teachers can help students bridge everyday language to academic language over the course of lesson activities.
- Every unit has three Academic Language Focus resources to practice, observe, and formatively assess progress related to the unit’s Academic Language Focus.
