The COVID-19 pandemic shut down schools in 2020, leaving many students to test at home. Some testing results showed a negative impact on students—often showing they were not meeting grade-level standards. This research suggests that students were able to find some success in at-home testing environments, especially in reading. While we cannot ignore the “COVID slide,” this report found that students who already had large gaps in grade-level preparedness were the most affected.
