District’s New EL Framework Leads to Growth

Pascagoula-Gautier School District (PGSD) has the second-highest English Learner (EL) population in Mississippi. In 2018, district leaders decided they needed to overhaul how they approached EL instruction to meet the needs of this growing population. Dr. Melissa DeAngelo, PGSD’s director of English language education, knew her district needed a research-based instructional approach, a discourse-driven math curriculum, and a proven assessment program.
