Detroit Outpaces Michigan in Proficiency Gains

Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) outperformed 82 percent of the large, urban school districts included in a recent study of 30 states. With the average student making up a quarter of a grade level in reading, Detroit’s post-pandemic recovery in Grades 3–8 significantly outpaces state performance gains. According to Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti, “Despite concentration of poverty, we are showing more improvement than suburban districts, than the state average, and other large, urban school districts.”
