California District Excels at EL Engagement

Cajon Valley Union School District, an elementary school district of almost 17,000 students in the San Diego County of California, has a large refugee and English Learner (EL) population. To meet the needs of these students, the district has developed robust family engagement efforts, which include a Family and Community Engagement Office, community liaisons, career workshops for parents, and more. Cajon’s strong community and data culture helped educators support students during a rapid change to remote learning due to COVID-19.
