About Thamar Polynice
Originally from New Jersey, Thamar Polynice is a Grade 4 English language arts teacher at Walker Jones Education Campus in the Washington, DC public school system. She has been teaching for eight years and is part of the Extraordinary Educators Class of 2024. However, her interest in education started long before she became a teacher. As a youth, she often engaged in activities that allowed her to foster the minds of young people. She was in a Big Brother/Big Sister program, tutored in the mornings and evenings, and volunteered to coach children in track and field and basketball during the summer. Over the years, these experiences shaped her into the educator she is today. College was her first out-of-state experience at Trinity Washington University in Washington, DC. After graduating with degrees in psychology and sociology, with a minor in women’s studies, she attained her master’s degree in organizational leadership from North Central University. One of Thamar’s favorite things about teaching is seeing student growth from the beginning to the end of the year and praising and lifting up those small moments. Her goal is to equip herself to continue to be a vessel of change for others.
