About Sowmya Sugumaran
Sowmya Sugumaran is a third grade teacher at Northview Elementary in Manhattan, Kansas. She graduated from Kansas State University in 2018 with a Master of Arts in Teaching. Prior to this role, she worked as a para-educator at Northview Elementary. Sowmya is actively involved in leadership and mentoring roles at her school. She is the science lead and a member of the school’s building committee and Parent Teacher Association. Outside of school, Sowmya enjoys spending time with her family. Her husband, Prathap, is an associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at K-State, and her son, Aditya, is a kindergartener. Sowmya loves baking, reading, and exploring new places with her family. Her core values of equity, collaboration, and lifelong learning drive her as an educator. She believes every student deserves access to a high-quality education and strives to create an environment where all voices matter.
