About Christy Washington

Christy Washington is a Grade 5 mathematics teacher at Hogansville Elementary School in LaGrange, Georgia and a Curriculum Associates’ Extraordinary Educator, class of 2024. Christy has worked in the Troup County School System for 15 years. She started her career as an exceptional education paraprofessional, and upon her graduation from LaGrange College, Christy spent time as a Grade K teacher and Response to Intervention Student Support team chairperson. Christy stays current on best mathematical practices by participating in professional learning courses at the local regional education service agency and by working to make her classroom a challenging and positive place for all students to engage in mathematical thinking. As a student, Christy struggled with math, relying on memorization and tricks to “get by” in her classes. She is committed to building strong numeracy skills in her students and developing lifelong mathematicians!
