New Jersey recently enacted legislation that requires the Department of Education to:
- Establish a working group on student literacy to be tasked with identifying evidence-based literacy strategies, appropriate and reliable instruments for a universal literacy screening, and high-quality literacy instructional materials
- Mandate universal literacy screenings for Grades K–3 students beginning in the 2025–2026 school year
- Require the use of high-quality literacy instructional materials beginning in the 2025–2026 school year
