How is using i-Ready Personalized Instruction with fidelity associated with state test performance?
On the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) for reading, English Learners who used i-Ready Personalized Instruction (i.e., i-Ready PI) with fidelity demonstrated higher state test scores for all grades and were more likely to be proficient in most grades. For mathematics, English Learner i-Ready PI fidelity users showed higher state test scores for all grades and were more likely to be proficient in most grades.
To understand the association between the use of i-Ready PI and performance on the SBA, Curriculum Associates evaluated SBA scores and proficiency levels for 34,143 English Learners in Grades 3–8 across 58 school districts in four states: California, Oregon, Washington, and Delaware. These analyses examined the difference in state scores and proficiency rates between students who used i-Ready PI with fidelity and students using the program less consistently, accounting for fall performance.
This study was designed to meet the criteria for ESSA Tier 3 evidence.
