NABSE and Curriculum Associates Announce Tamesha Webb as the 2025 Recipient of the Dr. Charles Mitchell Leadership Scholarship

The $10,000 scholarship recognizes aspiring district leaders committed to advancing student success

NORTH BILLERICA, Mass., January 22, 2026

The National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) has named Tamesha L. Webb, a doctoral candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, as the recipient of the 2025 Dr. Charles Mitchell Leadership Scholarship, sponsored by Curriculum Associates.

The scholarship reflects NABSE’s mission to improve the educational experiences and academic accomplishments of Black students by developing, supporting, and empowering the educators who serve them.

Webb is a doctoral candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and has built a distinguished career as a teacher, school leader, and instructional coach. Serving communities in Baltimore, Brooklyn, Boston, and across Massachusetts and New York, Webb has strengthened instructional practices and fostered a supportive school culture for hundreds of students and teachers.

“Tamesha Webb represents the kind of bold, purpose-driven leadership our nation’s schools need,” said Dr. Kimberly McLeod, president of NABSE. “Her work exemplifies the spirit of Dr. Charles Mitchell, Jr., whose dedication to strong, compassionate leadership continues to guide our organization. We are proud to recognize her with this scholarship alongside Curriculum Associates, a valued partner in uplifting Black educators.”

In her current role as a superintendent doctoral resident in the Uniondale Union Free School District in New York, Webb leads districtwide initiatives that elevate student voice, expand deeper learning opportunities, and build systems that bring coherence to instructional improvement.

“It is an incredible honor to receive this scholarship,” said Webb. “I stand on the shoulders of educators who shaped my life, and I carry forward a responsibility to create learning spaces where every student, especially those who have been historically marginalized, can fully recognize their power and limitless potential.”

Colleagues describe her as a leader with balance: someone who uses research to inform real-world action and builds trust through thoughtful collaboration. Her leadership in school redesign efforts, professional learning, and principal coaching has been described as transformative.

“Every generation of students deserves an educator whose commitment to their growth is palpable,” said Sonya Coleman, vice president of strategic partnerships at Curriculum Associates. “Tamesha is one of those leaders. Her impact will echo far beyond the schools she serves today. We are honored to walk beside her and partner with NABSE in supporting her continued growth.”

Webb was formally recognized at NABSE’s 53rd International Conference Awards Gala on December 13, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois.
