Making Caring Common (MCC), a project of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, recently named Sondra Cloud, vice president of strategic partnerships at Curriculum Associates, to its newly formed Educator Advisory Board. Cloud’s role on the board is to assist in the development of practical materials and strategies that can be used by educators and parents to foster the moral and social development of children. These resources will also encourage the deliberate incorporation of such learning opportunities into daily routines.
“MCC is dedicated to helping parents, educators, and communities raise children who care about others, justice, and the common good,” said Glenn Manning, senior project manager of MCC. “To help guide our work in schools, we created the Educator Advisory Board, which is composed of school leaders, content experts, practitioners, and others in the field. We are excited to welcome Sondra to this board as she possesses an invaluable perspective, deep organizational experience, an understanding of schools’ needs at this critical time, and importantly, a commitment to MCC’s mission. We look forward to having her insight as we support schools in strengthening our democracy, mending fractures that divide us, and creating a more caring, just world.”
Since 2013, MCC has worked directly with schools and educators, leveraged the power of key adult institutions, such as college admissions, to send messages to young people about the importance of concern for others and the common good, and developed an initiative to identify and create strategies for parents and caregivers to effectively develop children’s gratitude, empathy, and diligence.
“Being invited to join MCC’s Educator Advisory Board means taking a seat in one of the world’s most exclusive spaces, which is both an honor and a privilege,” said Cloud. “As Black people, our voices are frequently silenced, our worth is called into question, and our abilities are minimized. I believe that inclusivity is the initial step in ensuring that diverse views, lived experiences, and opinions are heard. It is a gift to utilize my experience to promote teaching young people how to speak up in the name of social justice, and I am eager to contribute to this important work.”
In her current role at Curriculum Associates, Cloud supports new and ongoing partnerships with equity-minded organizations and educational leaders to ensure greater outcomes for traditionally underserved students in Grades K–12 education. She has worked in the education technology space for 14 years and brings to her work a wealth of knowledge, diverse experiences, and a passion for social justice.
