Curriculum Associates Acquires Motion Math to Enhance Engagement and Strengthen Conceptual Understanding for K–6 Students

Partnership will ensure more students benefit from Motion Math's engaging learning games and develop healthy growth mindsets

North Billerica, MA, November 8, 2017

Curriculum Associates has acquired Motion Math® to further help elementary students improve their math fluency and number sense in key conceptual areas. Both Curriculum Associates' i‑Ready® program and Motion Math's games are designed with a focus on nurturing healthy growth mindsets, and the alignment of these two offerings will enrich student experience in the development of critical math skills. As a result of this partnership, Motion Math's award-winning games will be available as a supplement to i‑Ready, which is currently used by more than 5 million students and educators nationwide.

“We are thrilled to partner with Motion Math both because of the integrity of their games and because of the close alignment of our values, which put student learning first,” said Rob Waldron, CEO of Curriculum Associates. “This is only the second company we've acquired in our nearly 50-year history, a testament to the high regard in which we hold Motion Math's remarkable product. We look forward to enriching the i‑Ready learning experience for the millions of students we serve with this unique offering.”

Founded by Gabriel Adauto and Jacob Klein while they were students at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, Motion Math engages students with visual math games that promote a growth mindset through feedback and coaching, challenging and empowering students to understand difficult concepts. It offers more than 500 levels of adaptive, game-based content in the areas of fractions, addition, subtraction, number line, division, multiplication, proportions, estimation, measurement, and more. These pedagogically strong games can be accessed on computers or iOS devices, both in the classroom and at home. Motion Math additionally includes a dashboard that allows teachers to track student usage, skill progression, and factors of learning such as confidence.

“To help children find delight in intellectual challenge—that's our team's mission, and we're delighted to continue it with our new colleagues at Curriculum Associates,” said Klein, CEO of Motion Math. “This partnership means our current and future games will impact millions more students, including a large percentage in underprivileged Title I districts. In the context of i‑Ready's powerful instruction and assessment platform, students will benefit from gameplay in ways we've only dreamed of.”
