To help educators efficiently and effectively assess children from birth to first grade in order to address early identification and build school readiness, Curriculum Associates has released a major new edition of its screening tool: the BRIGANCE® Early Childhood Screens III. The BRIGANCE Screens III provide educators with an accurate assessment of skills that are critical predictors of children's school success and include new cutoffs, new validity and reliability research, new content aligned to early learning standards and Common Core State Standards, and a new user-friendly design.
With each age-specific screen administered in just 10–15 minutes per child, the easy-to-administer BRIGANCE Early Childhood Screens III help educators quickly and accurately assess children's physical development, language, academic/cognitive, self-help, and social-emotional skills. The new research base reflected in the Screens III helps educators identify potential developmental delays and giftedness with new cutoffs; reduce over-referrals with at-risk cutoffs; determine each child's specific strengths and needs; and assess each child's school readiness.
The new research found in the BRIGANCE Early Childhood Screens III reflects a high degree of accuracy with high sensitivity and specificity; strong inter-rater and test-retest reliability; and substantial content, construct and concurrent validity.
“The newly-updated BRIGANCE Early Childhood Screens III provide educators with the most up-to-date, research-based screening tool that they can trust to accurately and efficiently assess each child,” said Rob Waldron, CEO of Curriculum Associates. “By administering the BRIGANCE Screens, children's needs will be identified early ensuring they are better prepared to enter—and succeed in—school.”
The BRIGANCE Screens III are part of Curriculum Associates' BRIGANCE® Early Childhood family of products. This comprehensive family of products includes the recently released Inventory of Early Development III (IED III) for ongoing assessment and instructional planning, as well as the BRIGANCE Online Management System, which works seamlessly with the BRIGANCE Early Childhood Screens III to ensure consistent and accurate data and reporting.
In addition to the BRIGANCE Early Childhood Screens III, Curriculum Associates also recently released the BRIGANCE® Head Start Screens III for Early Head Start and Head Start programs. The Head Start Screens III also incorporate new cutoff scores, the latest norms, new research, and updated assessments. The new Screens III offer the most up-to-date content to support Head Start programs in meeting federal screening requirements.
