Curriculum Associates, an education technology company that develops tools that support equitable learning experiences for 12.5 million Grades K–12 students nationwide, has named John Higginson as its chief technology officer. Higginson will oversee the engineering, IT, security, and data functions in this role.
“John has an impressive background in leading technology teams, driving innovation, and providing mentorship to tech leaders. We are excited to add his wealth of knowledge and passion for learning to the team,” said Kelly Sia, president of Curriculum Associates. “His expertise will continue to drive a positive change in the lives of teachers and students.”
Before joining Curriculum Associates, Higginson was the CTO of Chief, the private network for professional women in the US and UK, and helped lead the company through its unicorn-valuation Series B. He also held the role of chief product and technology officer at Groupon, where he led a team of more than 900 people and oversaw research and discovery, product-market fit, software development, and security. In addition to his role at Curriculum Associates, Higginson serves as a member, investor, and advisor with Hyde Park Angels and as a tech advisor to startups in Chicago. Higginson is a passionate advocate for diversity, serves as a mentor in 1871’s WMNtech program, and speaks at ChiWiTCon, ARAmentors, and i.c.stars events.

Higginson holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree from University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. He resides in Chicago, IL.
