ELA Discourse Activities and Sample Cards
Magnetic Reading Discourse Cards promote richer, deeper dialogue to engage all students in meaningful English language arts conversations. This is a sample of the Discourse Cards along with activities that teachers can use with their students right now. With your class, use these questions and response prompts to encourage thoughtful classroom discussions and promote deep comprehension of complex texts with all students.
Vocabulary Support
In Magnetic Reading, students build knowledge about each unit topic by exploring four to five related lessons and reading multiple texts. As students read each new text, they build on the concepts of the previous texts and lessons. These connected texts also allow students to build rich vocabulary around the topic. These Vocabulary Support activities help support vocabulary acquisition through in-depth word exploration with Magnetic Reading’s Building Knowledge with Vocabulary Packs.
