Fake Job Postings and False Hiring Processes: What to Watch Out For

Please beware of phishing scams involving fake job postings on external sites.

Curriculum Associates is aware of individuals posing as People & Culture representatives or recruiters to make fake job offers. We take this issue very seriously, and we work with the appropriate authorities to address it as needed. By making you aware of these scams, we aim to prevent unsuspecting individuals from falling victim. Here are a few tips to help identify recruitment fraud:

  1. We will never ask you to purchase your equipment, for payment in exchange for being considered for a job, or ask you to deposit a check into your personal bank account.
Representatives of Curriculum Associates will never request payments or purchases to consider you for a role nor will we send you a check to deposit in exchange for consideration.

  2. When you are contacted by a Curriculum Associates recruiter or People & Culture professional, the email address will always end with "@cainc.com.”
If you receive email correspondence from an email account other than “@cainc.com,” it is most likely fraudulent. Similarly, any video interviews will take place at a link containing reference to “cainc.”
We occasionally work with external agency partners to conduct talent searches. To ensure authenticity, refer to our official Careers page to verify and apply for job openings directly, or you can reach out to people@cainc.com.  Additionally, all interviews with Curriculum Associates are scheduled through our internal system and will use email addresses ending in “@cainc.com.”
  3. Depending on the role, we usually conduct two to four interviews with candidates and at least one in-person or video interview before making a hiring decision.
Frequently, perpetrators of recruitment fraud will conduct the entire hiring process over email and ask candidates to complete bogus recruitment documentation such as application forms, terms and conditions of employment, or interview forms. In these cases, the Curriculum Associates logo may fraudulently be featured on the documentation. We’ve also found that recruitment scams may take place over text messaging. Perpetrators often use local-presence dialing technology to mask their phone number so it appears as though it’s coming from somewhere in the United States when it is not.
  4. We will never ask you to submit your personal information without having you apply on our career site first.
Beware if individuals make early requests for personal information such as your date of birth, passport details, bank details, social security number, etc. We will never hire anyone without having them fill out a legitimate, full application on our career site run through Workday Recruitment.
  5. We do not use Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, Trillian, Telegram, or other third-party messaging platforms to conduct interviews.
The Talent team at Curriculum Associates organizes the interview process and it typically starts with a phone or video interview with one of our recruiters or a hiring team member.
  6. Our typical hiring process usually takes several weeks.
The hiring process at Curriculum Associates usually takes some time. But, with perpetrators of recruitment fraud, there is usually an insistence or urgency to get a candidate hired. Use caution.

If you feel you are falling victim to recruitment fraud, or something just doesn’t feel right, please contact your local authorities or file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
