Joye H. Thorne, Ed. D. is an educational consultant for various public schools and for Curriculum Associates. She retired from the Aldine Independent School District (Houston, Texas) after 41 years. During her service in Aldine, a district with 60,000 students, she served as a high school English teacher, a curriculum specialist in reading and director of special education.
During her tenure in Aldine and after, she served as adjunct professor for various local universities such as University of Houston, Sam Houston State University, and University of St. Thomas. She frequently gives presentations or speeches on various topics, especially the legal aspects of special education and discipline. She also has served as a consultant to other school districts and regional service centers as well as committees for the Texas Education Agency, and the Department of Defense Schools.
Dr. Thorne served as president of the Texas Council of Special Education (TCASE) and the Texas Council of Exceptional Children (TCEC).
Dr. Thorne received her BS in Journalism and Public Relations from Centenary College of Louisiana, her M. Ed. in Curriculum Supervision and her Ed. D. in Special Education from the University of Houston.
John S. Grischow is a teacher at Nash Central High School, Rocky Mount, N.C. With masters degrees in history and school administration, he has also served as an assistant principal at two North Carolina schools. Grischow worked with teachers and students at Nash Central High to develop content for this course.
